At Hobart Naturopath we use conventional diagnostic techniques to assess and diagnose our patients’ conditions. Our naturopathic approach is evidence-based where possible. We treat a wide range of medical disorders and practice preventative medicine at all ages and through all life stages focusing on the attainment of optimal health through appropriate diet, lifestyle & herbal interventions.
Erin Collins has developed a reputation for expertise in the management of gynaecological and obstetric disorders. We have a collaborative approach and frequently work with practitioners from other medical disciplines to optimise treatment outcomes for our patients.
Naturopathy is a model of healthcare that aims to treat the underlying causes of disease and maintain health through lifestyle interventions.
Treatments include herbal medicine, nutrition, dietary and exercise advice, homoeopathy and therapies such as stress management, yoga and massage and more.
Many of the foundations of naturopathy – such as the importance of diet, clean fresh water, sunlight, exercise and stress management – are now acknowledged by conventional medicine.
Naturopathy evolved out of the ancient healing traditions of Europe, with its roots firmly grounded in early Greek medical philosophy but with an expanded and scientific understanding from more modern sources.
Naturopathy has a strong focus on the prevention of health problems and the early detection of a person’s likelihood of developing a health disorder (predisposition).
Naturopathy aims to:
- Minimise acute symptoms through appropriate medicines and interventions
- Support the patient so that illness is less likely to occur in the future
- Educate the patient to look after their own health and the health of their family.
The range of disorders commonly treated by naturopaths include:
- Digestive complaints
- Skin disorders
- Mood disorders and depression
- Allergy and sensitivities
- Arthritis complaints
- Behavioural problems
- Chronic fatigue syndrome
- Degenerative illnesses, such as arthritis
- Cardiovascular problems
- High blood pressure
- Fertility problems
- Endocrine disturbance
- Hormonal imbalances, such as premenstrual tension and menopause.
Your naturopath will want to know about your diet, lifestyle, family background and environment, as well as the history of your illness or complaint. This range of information is important to the practitioner, who seeks to discover the cause of the illness and treat you as a whole person, rather than target the symptoms alone.
A comprehensive range of high quality supplements and herbal medicines are available from the clinic at competitive prices.
Health Fund rebates are not currently available. We hope to have rebates re-instated for naturopathic consultations in 2020.
Cancer support programme
At Hobart Naturopath we offer a comprehensive cancer support programme.
We integrate various strategies into a single unique programme of care for you.
We offer dietary and lifestyle advice including herbal and nutritional medicines to safely support you during and after your medical treatment.
The most efficacious cancer care strives not only to kill cancer cells with the use of anticancer agents such as chemotherapy or radiation, but also to support healthy tissue through dietary and lifestyle interventions, the use of specific herbal and nutritional medicines and other supportive therapies as directed by your naturopath.
At Hobart Naturopath, we are familiar with the conventional diagnostic tests, blood markers and treatments for cancer. The protocols we offer will not interfere with your medical treatment but may help reduce side effects and improve your well-being during treatment.
We understand the standard treatments employed by medical oncologists and how best to work with them in a collaborative model of cancer co-treatment.
After completion of medical treatment, patients can also benefit from specific herbal medicines, nutritional support and diet and lifestyle modifications to reduce the risk of recurrence of cancer and improve overall health and wellness.
