Follow Hobart Naturopath

Naturopathy has always had as a primary tenet that “all disease begins in the gut” and current research bears this out in a multitude of ways. Digestive complaints range from bloating and flatulence, to diarrhoea or constipation, reflux, nausea, irritable bowel syndrome, parasitic infections and suspected or diagnosed food allergies or intolerances.

There are, of course, serious health conditions that can contribute to poor digestive function and we recommend thorough screening especially if there is a family history of bowel cancer, but frequently patients suffer from what is referred to as “functional” problems with no underlying pathology.

Once an initial diagnosis has been established there are many nutritional and herbal interventions that can assist in restoring normal GIT function in addition to addressing any dietary issues that may be contributing to symptoms.

PSP and PSK have been investigated as adjuvant medicines during chemotherapy and radiation. Studies have found that these immune enhancing polysaccharides enhance quality of life of cancer patients.
